Wednesday August 5, 2010 (Day 5)
Having to fall asleep the night before was a little difficult knowing what was ahead for us the next day. As we all anxiously awaited the morning, it finally came. We woke up quite early for breakfast which was very good, as it usually is, and headed towards our first activity of the day which was canopy zip lining. The canopy tour consisted of 11 platforms which were very high above the ground, and the sights we had seen were amazing. Mountains and greenery at whichever side you looked at surrounded us as we made our way down the line. As we came to a finish with the zip line, on our last line we had the opportunity to go upside down which the whole team of course did. After the zip line tour we quickly changed and headed over to the Fortuna Waterfall which was breathtaking. To get to the waterfall we had to walk down about 500 steps, but it was definitely worth it. The scene was beautiful, and we had the chance to swim at the bottom of the waterfall. The water was pretty cold, but we all had such a great time. Climbing back up the 500 steps took a small toll on our legs, but that didn't stop us as we headed to Don Juan's organic farm. We ate lunch there which consisted of an all organic meal. After our lunch we headed outside to help Don Juan make our own sugar cane, and it actually tasted pretty good. Our day was not nearly to a finish at this point. After Don Juan's organic farm we made our way to a rope swing which our tour guide Roberto had promised us we would go to.
The rope swing was such an adrenaline rush! Almost everyone on the team dared to take a swing into the clear pool of deep water. It was also exciting to interact with some of the natives that were also enjoying the swing. After the rope swing, we drove back to our hotel for a little free time in which most of us rested for what the remainder of the day had in store for us. Around 5 p.m. the team climbed back into our bus and traveled to the Baldi Hot Springs Resort. This resort was truly one of a kind as we were able to enjoy numerous hot spring pools, one including three water slides. We also enjoyed a fabulous buffet style dinner at the resort. The food was delicious, highlighted by a chocolate fountain with strawberries, which some people couldn't help but eat before their main course. After, dinner we began our journey to one of our most anticipated adventures which was located about thirty minutes from our hotel. Our fearless bus driver, Edward, and trusty tour guide, Roberto, took us to the west side of the active volcano located in La Fortuna. Roberto informed us that if you are lucky, you can see the eruptions of the volcano against the clear night sky. Although we weren't lucky enough to actually see an eruption, simply seeing the volcano as the clouds parted was a sight to remember. Exhausted from the day, everyone retired to their rooms getting some sleep for the following days adventures.
